Repair and restore your skin before the cold winter months set in with a non-acid, Cosmedix Deep Sea Peel; a chemical-free treatment that resurfaces the skin, lifts away pigmentation and skin impurities, softens mild acne scarring and replenishes the natural skin barrier.
This winter, our MediSpa is offering a medium-depth and acid-free Cosmedix Deep Sea Peel to help patients prepare for the long seasonal chill.
Fusing a potent combination of advanced science, coral and minerally-rich seaweed extract to ignite elastin and collagen production and stimulate blood flow, oxygen and nutrient supply to the skin, the Deep Sea Peel will help improve the tone of your skin by reducing the appearance of acne scars, UV photo-damage, melasma and hyperpigmentation. In the same way, the peel’s exfoliation process and powerful ability to penetrate deep in the epidermis equally assists in cellular regeneration and the proper absorption of active ingredients and natural moisture without clogging the pores.
How does it work?
The intense combination of exfoliation and marine silicate minerals penetrates deep into the epidermis, causing micro-trauma to the skin to promote a synthesis of elastin and collagen production and the shedding and removal of aged and damaged skin cells. As the dead skin falls away, the natural rejuvenation process also begins to help replenish the natural moisture levels, leaving you with a smoother and more hydrated complexion.
Will my skin be suited to the treatment?
The Deep Sea Peel is suitable for most skin types and conditions with the exception of dry, sensitive skin. If you have recently suffered a bout of herpes simplex [cold sores] or a skin inflection, the peel will not be recommended or refused.
However, patients suited for the peel can treat:
- hyperpigmentation | melasma
- skin impurities
- mild acne scarring,
- UV and environmental photodamage
- premature aging
- fine lines and wrinkles
- stretch marks and cellulite
Our senior dermal therapist, Michele Hetherington will first assess the condition of your skin during a consultation. Therefore, it’s important that you disclose any other condition that could impact the outcome of the treatment. If your natural barrier has been compromised, a tailored skincare regime will be devised to help restore the health of your skin. If your skin is suited, an alcohol-based solution will be applied to remove any oil and dirt before proceeding.
We will also allow you sufficient time to prepare your skin up to a month before the scheduled treatment with a strict, medical-grade home-care skin regime devised by Michele.
How is the Deep Sea Peel applied?
If your skin is suited to the peel, an alcohol-based solution will be applied to remove any oil and dirt before Michele will proceed with the treatment. Divided into three sections starting at the forehead, then cheeks and chin and around the nose and top lip, the exfoliation motions will be applied for approximately five to seven minutes in each area [depending on your natural pain threshold and the extent of the treatment required].
The Deep Sea Peel usually takes between 45 minutes to an hour.
Is the application painful?
It’s a peel and its modality works in a similar way to microneedling. To some patients, the sensation resulting from the application as broken glass because of the microscopic silicate punctures to the skin – the very triggers that cause the micro-trauma and ignites an intense inflammatory and vascular response deep within the epidermis layer.
For this reason, we do not recommend the treatment for patients with minimal tolerance for pain or extreme discomfort.
You may also feel some stinging and tightness as the marine silicate minerals are massaged into the skin. Patients may also experience the effects of the treatment including the sensation of sunburn and tightness over the next 24-48 hours.
After removing the peel with cold water, Michele will apply a medical-grade and anti-inflammatory post-care balm to rapidly reduces the redness, and act as a hydrating emollient as it aids tissue repair.
Value Plus: The treatment includes the fast-treating Cosmedix Rescue+ balm [30ml] and you will be recommended to apply a gentle, non-active cleanser for up to 14 days to optimise the recovery process. Additionally, we will include a complimentary LED treatment to help reduce the redness and assist in the promotion of collagen production.
How soon will I see the results?
The remarkable aspect of the Deep Sea Peel is the end-result.
After the product has been removed the coral and seaweed extract will remain in the epidermis to set in motion the nutrient supply, blood and oxygen to assist in cellular turnover. When it begins to dry out around day three, the forehead, jawline and the cheeks, to some degree, will experience intense shedding, though the tingling sensation will begin to subside.
During this period, you will be asked to maintain the hydration of the skin to achieve optimal results. This includes applying a non-active moisturiser and the Rescue+ balm.
It is also important that you use SP+ sun protection and medical-grade products including mineral foundation as part of your skincare regime, which Michele will customise to your unique skin profile.
By day six, your skin will begin to look and feel radiant.
Can I treat other areas?
Yes! Along with your neck, you can concentrate on your hands and décolletage [see the results as demonstrated by Michele Hetherington]. You can also apply the peel to treat cellulite and stretch marks if you can tolerate the discomfort.
How many treatments will I require?
The number of treatments will depend on your personal skin goals as well as the condition of your skin. To enjoy the peel’s maximum benefits, most patients undergo 2-3 treatments approximately 4-6 weeks apart in the first year and repeat treatments thereafter. If your skin’s texture and tone are in good condition you will still experience an excellent result from one treatment.
