If you think facials are merely a treatment for pampered patients, think again. In fact, if your skin is in need of an extra boost, regular medical-grade facials will help maintain its suppleness, glow and over-all health.
In this age of high-toxin and hormonal stress, it is quite common for the skin to take a beating. As our body’s largest organ, the skin also acts as a defence barrier to the environment in which we live in. And it’s never too late to start a proactive skincare regime.
In fact, facials not only cleanse the skin but also give you a greater understanding of its core function and how it reacts to any health-related issue.
On another level, medical-grade facials are a great way to introduce the rudiments of skincare to patients of any age. This includes educating teenagers and young adults on the importance of SPF sun protection, and properly cleaning, exfoliating and moisturising, especially during an acne breakout.
What are the benefits of regular facials?
Regular facial treatments offer a thorough deep cleanse without the patient having to resort to chemical peels or a laser rejuvenation procedure to achieve a glowing effect. More importantly, a medical-grade facial gently extract clogged pores, impurities and nasty blackheads without causing harm to your skin’s natural barrier. In the same way, dead skin cells are lifted away along with any build-up of environmental grime; a process that leaves the skin well-moisturised and healthy, and your complexion looking radiant and silky smooth. Coupled with restorative and soothing medical-grade serums, a peptide mask and a LED therapy to ignite cellular production, our signature facials will hit the sweet spot and reinforce the skin barrier with compounds that will allow your skin more hydrated and season-ready.
How often should I have one?
We recommend that patients with reoccurring skin conditions such as severe acne, eczema or rosacea should undergo a facial treatment every four to six weeks to ensure that the skin remains thoroughly cleansed and moisturised. Alternatively, patients could remove any impurities that may have built up over one season and start the next with a clear and fully-rejuvenated complexion.
What are the health benefits?
Aside from maintaining the health of your skin clean, a facial will increase blood circulation in the facial muscles and help calm the cortisol hormone in the mind and body which triggers stress.
When is safe to start?
Early prevention is the key although it’s never too late to develop a healthy skin care regime.
Young teenagers and adults of all ages who are either prone or experience acne will receive expert guidance on the fundamentals of good skin care as our senior dermal therapist, Michele Hetherington gently cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates the skin.
Are there different facials?
Yes. Each facial is customised to the patient’s unique skin type and reactions to, for example, acne, hyperpigmentation, inflammation and many more. But the common link is that they are all designed to optimise the health and natural glow of the skin.
Our Teen Clean treatment is tailored specifically as an acne facial and includes LED therapy and optional Medik8 skincare products for morning and evening.
The basis of a healthy skin regime includes a moisturiser, serum and toner to retain the skin’s natural moisture and clarity; preventative steps that also optimise the skin barrier’s functions during any hormonal changes and breakouts.
“Our goal is to prevent and treat acne rather than reverse any acne scarring after a series of severe outbreaks,” says Michele.”By educating teens on the disciplines of good skincare, we are simply introducing them a lifetime of good skin care habits.”

To optimise the results, we will recommend follow-up facials, particularly during an outbreak. After multiple treatments, there will be a dramatic improvement in the clarity and texture of the skin. Dr Chang may also prescribe a topical ointment before the patient undergoes a facial.
