Skin Cancer & Skin Lesions |
Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancers in the world. Skin cancers and lesions including moles and cysts not only vary in appearance but can be treated by several non-invasive and surgical methods, depending on the type of cancer or lesion, its size and location on your body and its stage of growth.
Of the three main types of skin cancer, melanomas are the most dangerous; basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are classified as non-melanoma skin cancers.
Skin cancers are treated via a number of non-surgical and surgical methods including the use of creams for shallow lesions and scraping techniques. Day surgery will be required for more aggressive cancers for the removing of the growth and the surrounding tissue — especially if the cancer has spread in and around the skin’s blood vessels and nerves. Additionally, Dr Chang performs skin grafts as well as reconstructive surgery for the removal of deeper lesions; leaving the area with more aesthetically-pleasing results.
DOWNTIME: Short treatment or day surgery, depending on the skin cancer. POST PROCEDURE: The sutures are removed anywhere from seven to 10 days, depending on the treatment.
